Just a New Mom, Creating a #MomBlog With a 4-Month-Old. Ah, Motherhood

March 15, 2021

Welcome to my little corner of the motherhood….

Sorry, I was saying welcome to my little corner of the…

Oh my god.

Welcome to my little corner of the motherhood world where it’s impossible to do any single task in one sitting. I’m not kidding when I say the above “breaks” in writing were real. Take a peep at the photo for this post and you’ll notice the baby monitor. Tucker, that’s my kiddo, was “asleep” while I was trying to take my time and enjoy writing the first post for my new blog. You know what I mean by “asleep”, right? Not. I mean he was not actually asleep. My peripheral vision has seen a major improvement since becoming a mom. I can catch the tiniest little movement in the farthest corner of my eye. That’s what happened here. Caught movement, ran to nursery, bounced back to sleep. Three times. So therefore, it took me 2.5 hours to write this post (you should know, one of my talents is quick writing so that 2.5 hours is an eon for me). And spoiler alert: Tuck’s nap lasted all of 19 minutes. Ha! Nap? Who am I kidding. If you’re reading this then you’re probably a parent and you know that 19 minutes is not a nap. It’s a trick. Anyway, we ate, we played, we tummy-timed, and then we shushed and rocked back to “sleep”. Ah, Motherhood.

New stay-at-home-mom

What I was trying to say originally was, “Hi. I’m Cass and this is my new #MomBlog. If you read my “About Me” then you know a little bit, but what I didn’t include was how I got here. So, if you’re so inclined, read on.

Hi, I’m Cass.

As I said, I’m Cassidy. I go by my full name, but generally people call me Cass. Except my mom; to her I am Ren. That’s a story for another post. Anyway, being a stay-at-home-mom-blogger was quite literally nothing I ever considered doing, it wasn’t even on my radar as something people did. But I have always been a writer, in so many senses of the word. I did blog back in the day, my younger years were filled with posts and pages of angsty teenage drama, but I can promise it was well written! If you have the urge to check it out, you can find it here.

My journey to motherhood

Flash forward to being furloughed from my job after nearly 10 years, and taking some time to soul-search while feeding my newborn baby on a constant loop, I realized this is something I could legitimately love. The only two things I’ve ever considered as passions are writing and interior design. My degree from OSU is in Advertising and I’ve worked in marketing for the last 10 years, so really…not a major stretch here. But the “mom-blog” is where the scales tipped for me. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to be a mom for a long time, and I was 100% certain I did not want to be a mom in my twenties. When my thirties arrived and I figured I better start thinking about it seriously. So I did, we did. My husband, Jeremiah, and I started really trying to have a baby but we struggled. After a couple years of trying different avenues we decided to move forward with IVF. And this is my favorite part of the story, so if you’ve just been skimming up to this point, check back in here because it’s happy. After our first (and only) consultation with our IVF specialist…I became pregnant naturally. I can’t quite explain the shock, thrill and apprehension at finding out we were pregnant, it was so unexpected at that point and it took a while to settle in. But as you can imagine, we were so incredibly thankful because going through the IVF process was something I don’t know that we were totally ready for; emotionally, physically or financially. So, with that I will just say that we were blessed.

I know so many women who have gone or are going through fertility struggles on their journey to motherhood, and they are nothing short of warriors.

And all the sudden life will never be the same

The culmination of this story takes place in November 2020, and is of course, Tucker Reed’s birth. Man, was he cute! At that point, as you all know…nothing will ever be the same again. I actually started a journal for him while I was pregnant, documenting the state of the world, as well as my mind, for him to read when he’s old enough, but for some reason starting a blog didn’t occur to me until later. By later, I mean after I became obsessed with buying toys and clothes for him, and a couple of my friends told me that I “buy the best baby toys”. I decided at that point that I could continue doing that (because, duh!), while providing reviews for other parents, and also create an avenue for myself to get some of these crazy ramblings out of my head every now and then. All-in-all, it’s a win!

Tucker’s toy-box & other reviews.

So if you’ve made it this far, you should know that you’ll always get “real” from me. I’m a dirty-hair-in-a-bun-and-no-makup kind of mom. I like to take pretty pictures, but parenthood is not always pretty and I promise to share those things too. I’ll be writing for myself, as well as for you. I’ll often ramble, but I’ll also review! I’m most excited about sharing reviews of our favorite kiddo toys/clothes/products in what I like to call, “Tucker’s toy-box“. (How cute is that name, right? I cannot take credit for it though, one of my cleverest friends @feld.fam threw it out there and I swooped it up!) Also, kids are important of course, but so are parents; so I’ll also be reviewing some of my favorite items that have made this new motherhood thing a little easier for me.

Thanks for being here, on this crazy journey of our “Little Zimmy Zoo”.
